When a family enjoying a walk in the woods outside Linköping, Sweden, discover the badly mutilated body of a young girl, Inspector Malin Fors is put in charge of the case. Malin immediately draws parallels between this case and one that has long haunted her - that of Maria Murvall. Several years ago, Maria was found in the very same forest, having been raped and brutally beaten. Since then she has lived in complete silence in a secure psychiatric clinic. When Malin meets a psychologist from a nearby hospital who mentions a third similar case, suddenly Maria appears to be a small part of a much bigger puzzle. But what happened that was so terrible it cannot be put into words? Malin is determined to get to the bottom of the case and finally uncover the truth of Maria's horrific past, no matter where it might take her. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Julia Barry. On the west coast of Sweden, in Skärhamn on Tjörn, Chief Inspector Greger Thulin thinks he lives at an idyllic spot. But even the most beautiful painting can have a faulty stroke of the brush. Hiding behind the walls of Bleket School, are bullying and drug addicted students. Homeroom teacher, Jonas Blomgren, lives on Rönnvägen. Amanda Durén and Belinda Wallin are pupils in his class. Amanda wears designer clothes, spreads money around and lives in a mansion, while Belinda's family is grateful if there's enough money to cover their basic needs. Belinda's mother, Margit Wallin, has a bad feeling about her daughter's teacher. Could he be following Belinda, and if so, why? At the same time love is in the air between some of the detectives. When the first murder victim shows up on Lyckebacken in Skärhamn, Greger Thulin is convinced that it won't take long for them to find the murderer, but starts to get discouraged when the investigation drags on. Inspector Katarina Linde and Forensic Detective Charlotte Engman are called in and try to put the pieces of the puzzle together from the clues they manage to find. It turns out the victim had an apartment on Eklandagatan in Gothenburg. What was he doing there? Soon Katarina starts to suspect that behind the victim's family façade, is a man who may be capable of even more than beating his wife. Greger Thulin is forced to ask the unavoidable question; has the peace and quiet of Skärhamn been put in a backpack, thrown on board a boat, and been transported out to sea? 1. Language: English. Laura Johnston Kohl was born in Washington, D.C., and was a teen activist working to integrate public facilities in the Washington, D.C., area. She actively fought for civil rights and free speech, and against the Vietnam War throughout the 1960s. She was devastated by the murders of her leaders in the 1960s - John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and Medgar Evers. She worked with the Black Panthers and attended Woodstock. After trying to effect change single-handedly, she found she needed more hands. She joined Peoples Temple in 1970, living and working in the progressive religious movement in both California and Guyana. A fluke saved her from the mass murders and suicides on November 18, 1978, when 913 of her beloved friends died in Jonestown. Soon after this, Synanon, a residential community, helped her gradually affirm life. She lived in Synanon for the next decade. In 1991, she got to work, finished her studies, and became a public school teacher. On the 20th anniversary of the deaths of her wonderful friends and adopted family in Jonestown, she looked up fellow survivors of the Jonestown tragedy. Since then, they have worked to put the jigsaw puzzle together that was Peoples Temple. Her perspective has evolved as new facts have cleared up mysteries and she has had time to reflect. Her mission continues to be to acknowledge, write about, and speak about why the members joined Peoples Temple, why they went to Guyana, and who they were. She lives with her family in San Diego. She is working on her second book, Collateral Damage, about the surviving victims of the Jonestown catastrophe - to be published in 2018. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Sarah Van Sweden. From Norway’s #1 best-selling crime writer comes a suspenseful locked-room mystery, the US debut of a new series, set in an isolated hotel where guests stranded during a monumental snowstorm begin turning up dead. A train on its way to the northern reaches of Norway careens off the track during a massive blizzard, 1,222 meters above sea level. The passengers abandon the train for a nearby, century-old hotel that is practically empty except for the staff. With plenty of food and shelter from the storm, the passengers think they are safe - until one of them turns up dead. With no sign of rescue and the storm continuing to rage, retired police inspector Hanne Wilhelmsen is asked to investigate. Paralyzed by a bullet lodged in her spine, Hanne has no wish to return to police work. Bitter and antisocial, she is slowly coaxed back to her old habits as curiosity and a natural talent for observation compel her to take an interest in the passengers and their secrets. When another body turns up, Hanne realizes that time is running out and she must act fast before panic takes over. Trapped in her wheelchair, trapped by the storm, and now trapped with a killer, Hanne has to fit the pieces of the puzzle together before they strike again. Anne Holt’s books have sold more than five million copies in Europe, and her books are #1 bestsellers in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, and Finland. Now she is poised to gain a huge American following with this captivating new mystery that pays homage to Agatha Christie and her classic book, And Then There Were None. Anne Holt has worked as a journalist and news anchor and spent two years working for the Oslo Police Department before founding her own law firm and serving as Norway’s Minister for Justice for part of 1996 and 1997. Her first book was published in 1993, and her work has been translated into 25 languages. She lives in Oslo with her family. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Kate Reading. Identity, Interest and Action

This book offers an original combination of cultural and narratological analysis with an empirical study of identity and political action. A powerful critique of rational choice theory, it also provides a solution to the historiographical puzzle of why Sweden intervened in The Thirty Years' War. Arguing that people act for reasons of identity, more fundamental than reasons of interest, Erik Ringmar shows the Swedish intervention to have been an attempt on behalf of Swedish leaders to gain recognition for themselves and their country.

Radical Right

During recent decades, radical right parties have been surging in popularity in many nations, gaining legislative seats, enjoying the legitimacy endowed by ministerial office, and striding the corridors of government power. The popularity of leaders such as Le Pen, Haider, and Fortuyn has aroused widespread popular concern and a burgeoning scholarly literature. Despite the interest, little consensus has emerged about the primary factors driving this phenomenon. The puzzle is to explain why radical right parties have advanced in a diverse array of democracies - including in Austria, Canada, Norway, France, Italy, New Zealand, Switzerland, Israel, Romania, Russia, and Chile - while failing to make comparable gains in similar societies elsewhere, such as in Sweden, Britain, and the United States. This book, first published in 2005, expands our understanding of support for radical right parties through presenting an integrated new theory which is then tested systematically using a wealth of cross-national survey evidence covering almost forty countries.
