If you knew your world would soon be torched to carbon, would you fight to save it? Or light a match of your own? Violina, a girl polarized by love and loathing, finds herself thrown into a post-apocalyptic world with mankind on the brink of extinction. Discovering the means to travel back in time, she teams up with the ever-optimistic, pun-loving Lux and sets out to prevent the apocalypse from ever happening in the first place. But as her crusade advances, she becomes increasingly disturbed by humanity's apparent "lack" of humanity and comes to a frightening realization: To build a new world, she must first tear the old one down. Inevitable Ascension - The twisted jigsaw puzzle of a story with equal parts rapid-fire action, humor, and charm. It's got a host of twists that will literally make your brain explode! Actually, not literally, you know, because otherwise that would be really gross. 1. Language: English. Narrator: V. K. McAllister. An inventive debut in the tradition of World War Z and The Martian, told in interviews, journal entries, transcripts, and news articles, Sleeping Giants is a literary thriller fueled by a quest for truth - and a fight for control of earthshaking power. A girl named Rose is riding her new bike near her home in Deadwood, South Dakota, when she falls through the earth. She wakes up at the bottom of a square hole, its walls glowing with intricate carvings. But the firemen who come to save her peer down upon something even stranger: a little girl in the palm of a giant metal hand. Seventeen years later, the mystery of the bizarre artifact remains unsolved - its origins, architects, and purpose unknown. Its carbon dating defies belief; military reports are redacted; theories are floated, then rejected. But some can never stop searching for answers. Rose Franklin is now a highly trained physicist leading a top-secret team to crack the hand's code. And along with her colleagues, she is being interviewed by a nameless interrogator whose power and purview are as enigmatic as the provenance of relic. What's clear is that Rose and her compatriots are on the edge of unraveling history's most perplexing discovery - and figuring out what it portends for humanity. But once the pieces of the puzzle are in place, will the result prove to be an instrument of lasting peace or a weapon of mass destruction? 1. Language: English. Narrator: full cast. Pieces for the Vitamin B12 jigsaw puzzle

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is an essential micronutrient and an important cofactor in the one-carbon metabolism. Vitamin B12 has been meticulously studied for decades, and much is known concerning the uptake and actions of this vitamin. However, several aspects still need to be clarified in order for us to understand its role in health and disease. In pursue of pieces for the puzzle, I have addressed three unresolved facets of the cobalamin metabolism in this work: The presence of vitamin B12-binding proteins in fish (Part A), Vitamin B12 during pregnancy and infancy (Part B), and the effects of metformin treatment on vitamin B12 metabolism (Part C).

This thesis is remarkable for the wide range of the techniques and observations used and for its insights, which cross several disciplines. It begins by solving a famous puzzle of the ancient world, which is what was responsible for the tsunami that destroyed settlements in the eastern Mediterranean in 365 AD. By radiocarbon dating of preserved marine organisms, Shaw demonstrates that the whole of western Crete was lifted out of the sea by up to 10 metres in a massive earthquake at that time, which occured on a previously unknown fault. The author shows that the resulting tsunami would have the characteristics described by ancient writers, and uses modern GPS measurements and coastiline geomorphology to show that the strain build-up near Crete requires such a tsunami-earthquake about every 6.000 years - a major insight into Mediterranean tsunami hazard. A detailed seismological study of earthquakes in the Cretan arc over the last 50 years reveals other important features of its behaviour that were previously unknown. Finally, she provides fundamental insights into the limitations of radiocarbon dating marine organisms, relating to how they secrete carbon into their skeletons. The thesis resulted in three major papers in top journals. This thesis is remarkable for the wide range of the techniques and observations used and for its insights, which cross several disciplines. A page-turning debut in the tradition of Michael Crichton, World War Z, and The Martian, Sleeping Giants is a thriller fueled by an earthshaking mystery-and a fight to control a gargantuan power. But once the pieces of the puzzle are in place, will the result prove to be an instrument of lasting peace or a weapon of mass destruction? Praise for Sleeping Giants 'As high-concept as it is, Sleeping Giants is a thriller through and through. . . . One of the most promising series kickoffs in recent memory, [and] a smart demonstration of how science fiction can honor its traditions and reverse-engineer them at the same time.'-NPR 'Neuvel weaves a complex tapestry with ancient machinery buried in the Earth, shadow governments, and geopolitical conflicts. But the most surprising thing about the book may just be how compelling the central characters are in the midst of these larger-than-life concepts. . . . I can't stop thinking about it.'-Chicago Review of Books 'A remarkable debut . . . Reminiscent of Max Brooks's World War Z, the story's format effectively builds suspense.'-Library Journal (debut of the month) 'This stellar debut novel . . . masterfully blends together elements of sci-fi, political thriller and apocalyptic fiction. . . . A page-turner of the highest order.'-Kirkus Reviews (starred review) Don't miss any of The Themis Files by Sylvain Neuvel: SLEEPING GIANTS WAKING GODS ONLY HUMAN
